Dear Mr. Lambert, Mr. Holzman, Ms. Hussey and Ms. Wallin:
I am writing to ask you to reconsider the focus of your reality show, "Cali Nurse." For far too long,Coach Bags, nurses have been portrayed as unintelligent, illiterate and inferior to physicians, only interested in sexual relationships with handsome doctors. In reality, this stereotype does a disservice to nurses and physicians and the medical community. Doctors and nurses work together to save lives. I have taught skills to doctors, I have learned skills from doctors. The focus is, or should be,Moncler Coats, on the patients, and the medicine involved.
Your program also searches primarily for young,Dre Dre Beats, attractive women. This is a sexist approach to nursing. Nurses are not all young. Nurses are not all attractive. Nurses are not all female. With your search, you are taking ageism and sexism to new levels.
I did not become a nurse because I was not intelligent enough to become a doctor. One of the most insulting moments in television is seeing a strong nurse finally become frustrated at the aggression and ineptitude of some physicians and becoming a physician themselves to change the system. In reality, changing the system does not require a career change. It requires action from within.
I would strongly suggest that before the process of creating a reality show focused on nursing,UGG Outlet Store, you all read "Nursing Against the Odds: How Health Care Cost-Cutting, Media Stereotypes, and Medical Hubris Undermine Nursing and Patient Care," by Suzanne Gordon. I would also suggest that each of you shadow a nurse in a high volume public hospital in several cities. Expose yourselves to the lives of actual nurses, not starlets who went to nursing school when their plans to become famous didn't pan out. We have enough reality stars. We don't have enough qualified, well trained nurses.
Sincerely,
tactile, RN
